Brigade Recruitment Information

Brigade Expectations

CFA Fire Brigades expect volunteers to be active participants of the Brigade.

The commitment you make to the Brigade is what you can offer.

However, the success and viability of the Brigade relies on the dedication, passion and pride that its volunteers take in being a part of the Brigade.

The Brigade expects volunteers to assist in:

  • Responding to fires and incidents;
  • Attend monthly Brigade meetings;
  • Participate in weekly training; and
  • Complete Minimum Skills Training and those competencies deemed necessary by the Brigade and by CFA.

New Recruit Training Expectations

CFA Fire Brigades place training as a high priority within the Brigade ensuring that all volunteers are equipped with the skills and knowledge necessary to effectively perform their role safely and effectively.

When?

Every Monday night starting at 7:30pm, Sunday training is also available.

What is expected?

Completion of Minimum Skills includes:

  • 1.07 Personal Protection
  • 1.09 Map Reading
  • 1.12a Wildfire Behaviour
  • 1.12b Wildfire Suppression
  • CFA074 Wildfire Communication
  • Any other competencies that are deemed necessary by the Brigade

Training Expectations For All Members

When?

Every Monday night starting at 7:30pm, Sunday training is also available.

What is expected?

Meet and maintain skills within the Brigade Operational Skills Profile.

Enhance skills through further competencies and courses, including:

  • Driving appliances;
  • First Aid;
  • Specialist skills;
  • Leadership;
  • Communications; and
  • Endless opportunities to enhance and broaden your skills.

Broader Brigade Membership Roles

CFA Brigades are becoming more involved across a broad range of activities other than fire fighting. Brigade activities include a greater emphasis on:

  • Proactive management of risks
  • Community education and training
  • Preplanning and preparedness
  • Helping communities manage their own safety
  • Media and public relations

Also, there are ongoing brigade requirements such as:

  • Training
  • Recruitment
  • Supporting members
  • Administration, records etc
  • Performance monitoring and reporting
  • Equipment maintenance

Broader Membership is about helping brigade develop a membership and skills base to meet these demands.

Broader Membership recognises that all brigades are different and provides flexibility for brogades to choose what is right for their specific situation.
